"Quality Breeding"
We are Jóhanna B. Ingólfsdóttir and Haraldur Sveinsson,
and we live at the farm Hrafnkelsstadir 1,
located in Hrunamannahreppur Municipality, Iceland.
We have a long history in the breeding of the Icelandic horse. Ever since we were children our main interest has been the horses, the breeding of them, and the training. For more than 40 years we ran a training station for the breaking in and further training of horses. During these years we have tamed/trained more than xxxx horses.
We also have sheep at our farm, currently they are about 340 ewes.
We participate in the Quality Horsebreeding Programme. This means that our breeding is controlled by the National Farmers' Association. They check that every horse on the farm gets enough to eat, special care, and that all papers are correct, for example all foals go through a DNA-test.
The programme also makes sure that we treat our land properly.
Every year, around 4-10 foals are born in our breeding. They stay with their mothers until late December where we take the foals inside to our "foal hotel" to make sure that they get everything they need to develop into beautiful and strong horses. At the same time we think this is important in order of taking care of the mares, so that they can stop milking and spend their energy on their pregnancy for the next foal.
Usually, all male horses (stallions and geldings) are for sale at our farm. We like to keep the young mares until they are tamed, but sometimes we decide to sell one or two.
It's always difficult to have to sell your beloved horses. But these are the conditions for being able to continue producing foals every year - we always need to sell some of them.
If you are looking for something in particular, please don't hesitate to ask.
Best regards,
Jóhanna and Haraldur
